Why JLM Studio for Kids?

As a mom, I know that as important as it is to capture your kids at every age, it’s equaly as important to make sure your family dollars are spent wisely.  I also know that there are lots of places to get your child’s photograph taken.  You can go to a studio to get the yearly portrait, or hire a photojournatlist to get some candid shots in your backyard (FYI – out-of-focus, poorly exposed images on an angle are NOT photojournalism!  But more on that in another post.).  My clients come back year after year because their experience with JLM Studio is different, and their expectations for the final images (even with the most rambunctious children!) are exceeded.  I have photographed in clients homes, yards, beaches and favorite spots for years and have the experience to provide you with both formal images for the family album, and photojournalistic images that show your kid’s silly, wacky, and even moody side!

The good news is, you don’t have to sacrifice one style for the other when choosing how to have your families photographs taken.  The image below looks like a studio image, and big brother and sister also have formal photographs from this session.  But these were taken in their home, where everyone was relaxed.  The best part was, after we were done we got to have some fun and take some silly photos, too!

Connor and Cameron

I joined Conner, Cameron, Mom and Dad at their home for a few family photos, plus some fun images of the boys having fun.  I love using the families home or yard as a background, because we all work so hard to create a wonderful environment for our kids to grow up in and it’s great to capture that in the family photo.  For this session, I used a beautiful tree in their front yard as the backdrop for the family photo, then we moved to the back and got some of the kids playing.  I really enjoyed editing this session because each boy’s personality really came through!

Will and Jack

Will and Jack visited me in my studio for a portrait session this week.  Lots of energy and curiosity always makes photographing 2 year olds fun, and both boys did great – we even got some stellar shots of them with mom!  The most interesting thing in the studio to little Will was my tripod, so I let him play with it for a few minutes while sneaking in some close-ups.  Being a mom has definitely changed the way I photograph kids!

Easter Fun!

Here is Caiden, all dressed up for Easter!  He put all that effort in to stay clean so afterwards we decided to take off the fancy shirt and tie and get messy coloring some eggs.  A few photos from the morning…

Welcome Nolan!

Baby Nolan was welcomed into the world shortly after the new year. I met him a couple of weeks later and had so much fun taking photos of the little cutie in his beautiful nursery. Even Duncan, the family dog, got in on the fun. Congratulations Christina, Shayne (and Duncan!) on your new addition!

Two weeks old is a great time for baby photos, because everyone is a bit more relaxed (albeit tired!) but the baby hasn’t outgrown some of those distinctive newborn features.
